The customer’s Joven 35L (JVA35) water heater had no hot water and occasionally power-tripped. A site assessment revealed the heater had reached its lifespan, and the 3-pin plug socket was burnt, posing a safety hazard. Using a 3-pin plug is non-compliant with Safety Mark regulations, as it can cause overheating or fire hazards. The drain pipe was also discharging water near power points unsafely, risking electrical hazards.
To resolve these issues, we recommend replacing the old heater with a new, compliant unit and directly wiring it to the electrical mains through a double-pole switch for safe operation. Additionally, the drain pipe will be rerouted to discharge water safely near the floor, away from electrical points, and in line with PUB’s guidelines. These measures ensure the system is safe, efficient, and compliant, providing the customer with reliable hot water and peace of mind.
Existing Heater:
Joven JVA35 (35L)
New Heater:
Joven JSH50 (50L)
To address these issues, we recommend replacing the old Joven JVA35 with a new Joven JSH50 (50L) water heater, which better meets the customer’s needs. Additionally, to ensure safety and compliance, we propose installing a 20A junction box for the heater’s power supply, replacing the unsafe 3-pin plug setup.
The electric water heater as a whole unit (i.e. parts incorporated in the water heater itself such as heating element, pressure relief valve/temperature relief valve, water tank, etc. shall be tested in accordance with the following:
The primary issues with the existing Joven JVA35 water heater—no hot water and power tripping—were caused by its age and the unsafe 3-pin plug setup. By replacing it with the Joven JSH50, installing a heater switch and drainpipe, we ensure a safe, reliable, and compliant solution that adheres to PUB regulations and Safety Mark standards. This upgrade not only resolves the current issues but also provides enhanced performance and peace of mind for the customer.
