A homeowner at 110A Punggol Field HDB contacted Homeone after spotting reddish stains and water marks spreading beneath their ceiling-mounted heater. Our inspection revealed a severe case of “Rheem Water Heater Rusty”—with extensive corrosion clearly visible around the tank body and mounting ring of the 61SVP10S unit.
From the photos, rust streaks and flaky deposits were leaking from the tank base, indicating that the internal steel tank had corroded through. Brown water discharge, visible on both the bracket and outlet piping, posed an immediate risk of flooding, ceiling collapse, and potential electrical short circuit. Additionally, most of the water pipe fittings were already rusted or leaking at the joints.

Old Water Heater:
Rheem EHG-30
Rheem Water Heater Rusty along the tank bottom and side seam
Corroded fittings with water leakage at joints
Power supply used non-compliant 1.5mm² cable, unsafe for water heater
Absence of bonding and essential safety components
High risk of tank rupture, water damage, and electrocution
To address the dangerous Rheem Water Heater Rusty condition, our team recommended replacing the tank immediately with a modern and PUB-compliant Rheem EHG-30 water heater. This new model features a durable vitreous enamel tank with upgraded safety features.
We also corrected all non-compliances:
Replaced undersized 1.5mm² cable with 2.5mm² for proper current rating
Installed approved check valve, stopcock, and stainless steel piping
Applied electrical bonding for electrocution protection
Leak-tested and recommissioned the heater safely under licensed supervision
Isolated water and power supply
Removed rusted Rheem 81SVP10S unit
Cleared degraded pipe fittings and corroded electrical connectors
Wall-mounted new unit securely
Installed stainless steel inlet/outlet pipework (≤1 metre)
Fitted PUB-approved double check valve and stopcock
Replaced power cable with 2.5mm² wiring
Bonded metal parts to earth according to CP5 Clause 413-02
Performed pressure and leak testing
Verified electrical safety and earthing continuity
Final visual inspection and site cleanup
This Rheem Water Heater Rusty case at 110A Punggol Field HDB was addressed promptly to prevent potential hazards. The failing 61SVP10S unit, showing visible tank corrosion and pipe degradation, was replaced with a new Rheem EHG-30 model.
