Kovan Melody
Condominium
A homeowner at Kovan Melody reported weak heating from an ageing Paloma gas water heater. After a detailed inspection, our team found the system had worn internal components and reduced gas efficiency. We recommended a full replacement to restore safe, consistent hot water and long-term reliability for the household.

Kovan Melody, located Hougang, the old Paloma gas water heater begin to show performance issues after 8–12 years due to corrosion and gas component wear. Our licensed team was engaged to carry out a safe and compliant heater replacement.
The unit had reached the end of its lifespan, and repair was no longer practical. The decision was made to replace it with a Macro MA-20WOD Gas Heater Powered by CityEnergy.
Old Paloma PH-163EWH (discontinued in Singapore) installed at the Lakeshore.
Motherboard melted, consistent with prolonged overheating/ignition fault.
Heat exchanger rusty and burnt, indicating metal fatigue and internal leakage.
Gas and water safety-valve piping heavily corroded; unions and fittings no longer operating reliably.
Overall condition: end-of-life, unsafe to repair.
A melted motherboard inside the gas water heater indicates severe internal overheating or electrical failure. Such damage can disrupt ignition, cause erratic operation, and increase fire or gas leak risks.
The heat exchanger shows extensive rust and mineral buildup, which reduces heat transfer efficiency. Continued corrosion may lead to water leakage and potential carbon monoxide release.
The burner section is heavily corroded and partially blocked, leading to incomplete combustion. This condition can cause yellow flames, soot buildup, and dangerous carbon monoxide production — a major safety hazard.
✅ Removed old unit, the old gas pipe union and old fittings. And installed a new Rinnai gas water heater (REU-2008-RS).
✅ Upgraded to stainless steel piping with single-use stainless steel fittings, comply with PUB Regulations.
✅ Replaced worn gas valve and installed a new gas valve.
✅ Verified electrical isolator connection, control panel connection and bonding.
Supplied and installed a new Macro MA-20WOD (City Gas)
Replaced leaking/corroded pipe joints with PUB-approved components
Installed a new control panel for efficient operation and safety.
Performed a Final Pressure Test (Reg, 21) to verify a leak-free installation.
Connected a dedicated power supply for the MA-20WOD via isolator.
Installed 2.5mm² supply cable per safety requirements.
Installed 2.5mm² equipotential bonding and verified continuity.
Commissioned and logged readings after heater startup.
1-Year Homeone Engineering Warranty covering workmanship.
1-Year Manufacturer Warranty for the Macro MA-20WOD water heater.
According to Gas Supply Regulations 21, any installation, maintenance, repair, or testing of a gas appliance and its connection to the gas installation must be checked to ensure it is safe for use and fully gas-tight.
Our team performs a Final Pressure Test to verify the system’s safety. Under the latest Singapore Standard SS 608:2024, the testing pressure is set at 4,50 mm w.g. (45 mbar) and maintained for five minutes. During this period, the manometer reading should remain stable with no drop exceeding 9 inches of water column.
If the pressure remains constant, it confirms that the gas installation is leak-free and safe for operation. Once testing is successfully completed, we issue a Gas Test Certificate signed by our Licensed Gas Service Worker (LGSW) to certify compliance with Singapore’s Gas Supply Regulations.
At Kovan Melody (Hougang), we replaced an ageing gas water heater that was no longer performing reliably. To restore consistent and safe hot water, a new Macro Gas Heater was installed, tested, and certified in full compliance with Singapore’s Gas Supply Regulations 21.
Before installation, the old unit was carefully dismantled and all pipe joints, gas lines, and electrical bonding were checked for wear or leaks. The new system was then pressure-tested and inspected to ensure complete gas-tightness and safe operation.
By upgrading to a newer, compliant model, the homeowner can now enjoy reliable hot water without the risks associated with gas leaks or carbon monoxide exposure.
Every replacement project is personally supervised by our EMA-Licensed Gas Service Worker, with proper documentation, Gas Testing certification, and after-sales support — giving homeowners full peace of mind.
Licensed & compliant works only.
