During our assessment of the existing Joven water heater (shown in the second photo), we found that the installation did not comply with the manufacturer’s installation guide, nor did it meet PUB regulatory standards. Several essential safety components were missing or improperly installed, which may have contributed to the unit’s early corrosion and reduced service life.
According to the official Joven installation manual, the following elements must be installed for safety, performance, and compliance:
Double check valve – essential for blocking backflow and required by SS636.
Protective electrical bonding – mandatory under CP5 Clause 413-02 to prevent electrocution.
Old Water Heater:
Joven JH50
Old Water Heater:
Joven JSH50
Joven Water Heater Corrosion along the tank.
No backflow protection; inlet fittings starting to leak.
No earth-bonding wire.
Homeone removed the corroded JH50 and installed a new Joven JSH50 (50 L) with full PUB compliance:
All works were carried out by our team under the close supervision of a PUB-Licensed Plumber. On completion, we lodged the required installation submission with PUB to formalise compliance.
Shut off the water and power supply
Safely removed the corroded Joven JH50 unit
Disconnected non-compliant fittings
Mounted new 50L JSH50 securely
Installed stainless steel inlet/outlet pipework
Fitted double check valve, drainpipe, and stop valve
Applied protective electrical bonding
Recommissioned the system and tested for leaks and safety

Conclusion
This water heater corrosion case at Woodsvale posed multiple hazards, from tank failure and water backflow to potential electrocution due to missing bonding. Homeone’s replacement with a Joven JSH50 and full safety upgrades ensures the homeowner now enjoys a PUB-compliant, leak-free, and safe water heater installation.
All work was carried out under the supervision of a PUB-licensed plumber.
