1
Stop Using the Heater Immediately
If you see smoke, smell something burnt, or notice haze near the heater:
- Turn off the heater
- Do not try to restart it
Smoke is a sign of overheating or internal failure.
-
2
Check Where the Smoke Is Coming From
Without opening the heater:
- Burnt smell during operation
- Smoke when hot water is turned on
These usually point to internal components overheating or burning.
-
3
Check the Display or Error Code
Look at the screen or controller:
- Error codes appearing (or no display at all)
- Heater shutting down by itself
Automatic gas heater shutdown often happens when the heater detects unsafe conditions.
-
4
Look for Visible Signs Outside the Heater
Do a quick visual check around the unit:
- Rust, water stains, or corrosion
- Signs of water leakage
These can worsen overheating and lead to smoke.
⚠️ Important: ❌ Do not open the heater. ❌ Do not touch gas connections
