The homeowner at Wandervale, Choa Chu Kang, contacted us after their Gas water heater began displaying an E7 error code, accompanied by intermittent operation issues.
This raised immediate safety concerns, as the E7 error code is commonly associated with a gas valve malfunction. The gas valve plays a critical role in regulating gas flow during ignition and operation. When faulty—due to wear, corrosion, or internal failure—it can lead to unstable combustion, ignition failure, or automatic system shutdown as a safety precaution.

The homeowner at Wandervale, Choa Chu Kang, contacted us after their gas water heater began showing an E7 error code on the control panel. The heater was experiencing unstable operation and occasional shutdowns, affecting the household’s hot water supply.
During our assessment, the gas valve was found to be faulty and no longer operating reliably. A malfunctioning gas valve can cause improper gas flow, ignition failure, or unstable combustion, all of which pose potential safety risks if the unit continues to operate.
Gas valve failures are safety-critical and, in older heaters, replacement parts may not restore long-term reliability.
To ensure household safety, system reliability, and compliance with gas safety requirements, a full gas water heater replacement was recommended and carried out as the safest and most dependable solution.
A heat exchanger leak: When a heat exchanger leak occurs, it means the internal metal tubing has developed cracks, corrosion, or pin-hole leaks.
Motherboard Melted: If parts of the motherboard melt or burn, the heater cannot operate safely or reliably.
Signs of a water leak include visible drips, rust, damp smells, stains, unusual noises, or unstable heater performance.
Overall condition: The heater cannot be repaired and a full replacement is recommended.
Following our on-site assessment, the heater was confirmed to be unsafe for continued operation. Internal components showed clear signs of heat damage, indicating that the unit could no longer function reliably.
A full heater replacement was therefore advised as the safest and most effective solution. Replacing the unit ensures proper gas combustion, stable performance, and eliminates the risk of recurring overheating or operational issues, providing the homeowner with peace of mind and reliable hot water use.
Once the heater was confirmed to be faulty, our team carried out safe removal of the unit to avoid any further safety concerns. The old heater was taken down carefully without affecting the surrounding pipes, valves, or wall areas. Any worn parts found during the process were properly handled to keep the area safe.
When a Gas water heater displays an E7 error code, it often points to an issue with the gas valve or internal safety components. Because this error relates to a critical safety system, it’s not possible to provide an accurate repair cost just by looking at the error code alone.
Every heater and fault is slightly different, and the actual cause could vary based on the unit’s age, condition, and how the internal parts have been affected. For that reason, we require a site assessment by a qualified technician before we can determine the appropriate solution and give you a reliable repair estimate.

Under Gas Supply Regulations 21, all gas heater works — including installation, repair, or replacement — must undergo mandatory safety checks before the appliance can be put into operation. This ensures the system is safe and completely free from gas leaks.
As part of this process, our technicians conduct a Final Pressure Test to verify the integrity of all gas piping and connections. The system is pressurised and observed over a fixed period to confirm that the pressure remains stable.
A stable reading indicates that all joints are properly sealed and there are no gas leaks. Upon successful completion of the test, a Gas Test Certificate is issued and endorsed by our Licensed Gas Service Worker (LGSW), certifying that the installation complies fully with Singapore’s gas safety regulations.
At Wandervale, The E7 error code was confirmed to be linked to a gas valve–related fault, a critical component that controls gas flow and safe combustion within the City Gas water heater. As the gas valve was no longer operating reliably, continued use of the heater posed potential safety risks, including unstable combustion and unexpected system shutdown.
Given the age of the unit and the safety-critical nature of the fault, repair was not recommended. A full heater replacement was carried out to restore safe operation, ensure proper gas regulation, and provide the homeowner with a stable and reliable hot water supply. This solution prevents the risk of recurring E7 errors and ensured the system met current safety requirements for continued use.
