Ariston Power Tripping: Replacing Ariston AN2 15 RS to AN2 30 RS at Sembawang Springs Estate on 3 Apr 2025

A homeowner in a landed property faced an Ariston power tripping issue — the heater would trip the power each time it was switched on. They reached out to Homeone for a solution.

During inspection, we found the heater at the end of its lifespan with the inner tank leaking, unsafe mounting, and missing essential safety features such as a drain pipe, equipotential bonding, and a double check valve.

Before

This photo highlights a dangerous Ariston power tripping case at a landed house. The existing heater setup had a non-compliant cable joint, no drain pipe, and no double check valve—all signs of a non-compliance installation by a handyman.

After

Replacing the new heater, we completed a full compliance installation to resolve the Ariston power tripping issue. The upgrade includes a new Ariston AN2 30 RS unit, double check valve, proper electrical bonding, new piping and fittings, and a replaced heater switch for safe, long-term performance.

Site Findings:

Our technician was dispatched to inspect the reported Ariston power tripping issue. The customer indicated that the heater (Ariston AN2 15 RS) would trip the power supply every time the switch was turned on, completely cutting off hot water access. On arrival, we noted that the heater was mounted at a height that made the working area unsafe, requiring our technician to wear a safety harness for a secure assessment.

Upon inspection, it became evident that the heater had reached the end of its lifespan. Additionally, the heater switch was faulty and the power supply cable was connected via a non-compliant cable joint, with no proper junction or connector box, violating PUB installation standards. The installation lacked essential safety features such as a drain pipe, equipotential bonding, and a double check valve — all of which are mandatory for safe and compliant installation.

Proposed Solution:

To eliminate the Ariston power tripping issue and bring the system to full compliance, we recommended the following actions:

  1. Replace the old AN2 15 RS heater with a new Ariston AN2 30 RS model. The upgraded capacity meets the household’s hot water usage more efficiently.

  2. Remove the non-compliance cable joint and install a certified 20A connection box to ensure proper power delivery to the new heater.

  3. Carry out all work using safety harnesses and necessary fall protection equipment to maintain a safe working environment.

  4. Test the new heater thoroughly post-installation to ensure no more power tripping and stable electrical performance.

Job Scope:

1. Initial Testing & Fault Diagnosis:

  • Conducted circuit testing to confirm Ariston power tripping at switch-on.

  • Inspected power supply and discovered a non-compliant cable joint.

  • Verified heater’s poor performance and age-related faults.

2. Safety Measures:

  • Technician worked with safety harnesses due to the elevated installation location.

  • Area secured before proceeding with replacement works.

3. Electrical & Plumbing Installation:

  • Removed existing Ariston AN2 15 RS heater.

  • Installed new Ariston AN2 30 RS model with upgraded features.

  • Replaced unsafe cable joint with 20A compliant connection box.

  • Installed new drain pipe, bonding wire, and double check valve to meet PUB standards.

4. Final Testing & Quality Assurance:

  • Conducted continuity, insulation, and load testing.

  • Verified no further Ariston power tripping after installation.

  • Inspected for leaks and confirmed correct pressure output.

5. Site Clean-Up & Handover:

  • Cleared all packaging and installation debris.

  • Completed digital job form and customer sign-off.

  • Transfer Terms & Conditions: workmanship warranty, parts warranty only applies to items provided by Homeone. Warranty is non-transferable.

Conclusion:

This Ariston power tripping case revealed several serious safety and compliance issues, including a heater at the end of its lifespan, a non-compliant cable joint, and installation in a high-risk location. Left unresolved, these could lead to electric shock, fire hazards, or fall accidents during maintenance.

Homeone resolved the issue by replacing the faulty heater with a newer, larger-capacity model and rewiring it through a compliant 20A connector box. Our technician carried out the work using a safety harness, ensuring a safe working environment throughout.

All installation and electrical work was conducted in line with PUB regulations and supervised by a Licensed PUB plumber, ensuring long-term safety, reliability, and peace of mind for the homeowner.
