The Ariston storage water heater tank is leaking due to internal corrosion and tank failure. - 🔍 Finding:
- 🔴 Severe internal tank corrosion: Extensive rust staining on the front casing indicates that the inner tank has rusted through. Once the storage tank begins leaking, replacement of the entire heater is the only safe and reliable solution.
- 🚱 Missing approved double check valve: No approved check valve was found on the cold water inlet. This is required to prevent backflow into the potable water supply and is part of the recommended installation requirements for storage water heaters.
- 💧 No discharge (drain) pipe installed: The pressure relief valve discharge is not connected to a drain pipe leading to the nearest floor trap. If the safety valve releases hot water due to pressure build-up, water may discharge directly into the ceiling space, potentially causing ceiling damage, water seepage, and scalding hazards.

- 🔍 Finding:
- 🚱 Missing approved double check valve: No approved double check valve is installed on the cold water inlet. Without this device, backflow may occur, potentially affecting the potable water supply.
- ⚡ Electrical bonding not visible: No electrical bonding connection is visible in the installation. Electrical bonding is recommended where required to minimise electrical potential differences between metallic pipework and the water heater.
The existing Joven storage water heater was replaced with a new unit, and the plumbing system was upgraded with the required safety components.
