1
Smell for gas near the heater
A strong or persistent gas smell around the water heater, pipe joints, or valve area is an early warning sign. If you smell gas, do not switch on electrical appliances or ignite flames.
-
2
Listen for unusual sounds
Hissing sounds near gas pipes, unions, or the heater body may indicate gas escaping from a loose or corroded connection.
-
3
Check the gas valve and joints visually
Look for:
- Rusty gas valve
- Corroded or discoloured pipe joints
White powdery residue or rust flakes
-
4
Observe heater behaviour
Gas leaks often come with:
- Heater failing to ignite
- Intermittent shutdowns
Modern Gas heaters may automatically shut down as a safety precaution.
⚠️ Important: If you suspect a gas leak, stop using the heater immediately and contact Homeone for any help.
