An HDB homeowner contacted us via WhatsApp, reporting that their Ariston water heater leaks and sometimes failed to provide hot water. Concerned about potential water damage and system failure, they reached out to Homeone for a reliable solution.

Site Assessment Findings:

Upon inspection, our technician identified several issues:

1. Existing Heater Issues: The Ariston water heater leaking was due to severe inner tank leakage, making repairs impossible and requiring immediate replacement.

2. Non-Compliant Installation: The system lacked essential safety components, including a double check valve, gated valve, drain pipe for proper discharge, and electrical bonding, posing a risk to the homeowner.

3. Deteriorated Junction Box: The connector (junction) box had degraded over time and required immediate replacement to prevent electrical hazards.

Proposed Solution:

To resolve the issue, we recommended replacing the Ariston water heater leaking with a new Ariston unit of the same capacity, ensuring compatibility with the home’s water consumption. Additionally, we proposed installing the missing safety components and replacing the deteriorated junction box to ensure compliance with PUB regulations.

Ariston Water Heater Replacement Work Scope:

1. Supply and installation of a new Ariston water heater.

2. Removal and disposal of the old unit with Ariston water heater leaks due to a failing inner tank.

3. Installation of a double check valve, gated valve, drain pipe, and electrical bonding for regulatory compliance.

4. Replacement of the deteriorated junction box to ensure electrical safety.

5. Testing and commissioning of the new system.

6. Work area clean-up before departure.

7. Provision of PUB approval letter.

Regulatory Compliance:

The electric water heater as a whole unit (i.e. parts incorporated in the water heater itself, such as heating element, pressure relief valve/temperature relief valve, water tank, etc. shall be tested in accordance with the following:

1. AS/NZS 4020:2018 Appendix K – Sample extraction procedure for use with water heating system. An accredited or non-accredited test report for Appendix K is acceptable provided that the test laboratory is accredited by Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) to AS/NZS 4020:2018 Appendix H on Extraction of Metals, at the point of testing;
2. The samples extracted in accordance with Appendix K shall then be tested in accordance with AS/NZS 4020:2018 Appendix H – Extraction of metals (for metallic materials in contact with water). The maximum allowable concentrations of metals listed in Table 2 of AS/NZS 4020:2018 shall not exceed the limits specified by the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality.

Conclusion:

The Ariston water heater leaking issue was caused by a badly leaking inner tank, which is beyond repair. By upgrading to a new Ariston water heater and correcting the safety concerns, we provided a reliable, efficient, and regulation-compliant solution, restoring peace of mind for the homeowner.
