How to select a Gas Heater?

Gas Heater does NOT need to obtain Safety Mark to be sold in Singapore

Gas (Supply) Regulations 2008
Legislation Division of the At-torney-General’s Chambers of Singapore.
This regulates the installation of Gas Heaters.

City Energy is NOT an authority.
It is the producer and retailer of piped town gas in Singapore. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation.

EMA is the regulating Authority for Gas (Supply) Regulations 2008
- EMA is conferred powers under the Gas Act (Chapter 116A) to make regulations for regulating the gas industry.

All gas service work involving piped gas installation or piped gas appliances must be undertaken or carried out by a licensed gas service worker.

A written statement issued by a City Energy Licensed Gas Service Worker after installation of a gas meter and turning on of gas supply to a unit.
This is in accordance with Regulation 21 of Gas (Supply) Regulations 2008
GAS ACT
Testing of gas appliances
21.—(1) Any person who carries out any installation, maintenance or repair of a gas appliance at a time when gas is being supplied to the premises in which the gas appliance is installed shall, immediately after completion of such installation, maintenance or repair, test the gas appliance and its connection to the gas installation to check that —
(a) the gas appliance is safe to be used;
(b) the connection of the gas appliance to the gas installation is gas-tight; and
(c) the work is in compliance with these Regulations.
(2) If, on completion of the tests referred to in paragraph (1), it is found that the gas appliance is safe to be used, the person performing the tests shall issue a written statement certifying the gas appliance is safe for use.
(3) No person shall use any gas appliance that has not been certified safe for use.

Gas Leak Testing
After The Gas Heater Replacement
Gas Leak Testing – After Gas Heater Replacement
- One commonly used gas leak testing machine is a gas leak detector.
- This handheld device is equipped with sensors that can detect the presence of certain gases, such as natural gas or propane. The detector is moved around the area or equipment being tested, and if it detects a gas leak, it will typically emit an audible or visual alarm to alert the user.

Gas Pressure Gauge Test – After Gas Heater Replacement
- Before and after replacing a gas appliance or conducting maintenance on a gas system, it is common practice to measure the gas pressure using a gas pressure gauge. The purpose of this test is to ensure that the gas pressure is within the appropriate range for safe and efficient operation.
- Before the replacement or maintenance, the gas pressure gauge is connected to the gas line, typically at a convenient access point such as a gas valve or a test port. The gauge measures the pressure of the gas flowing through the line, and the reading is recorded.
- After the installation or maintenance is complete, the gas pressure gauge is again connected to the gas line, and a second reading is taken. By comparing the initial reading to the final reading, it can be determined if there are any significant changes in the gas pressure.
- This test is important because incorrect gas pressure can lead to various issues such as inefficient combustion, appliance malfunctions, or even safety hazards. By monitoring the gas pressure before and after any work, it helps ensure that the gas system is functioning properly and that the appropriate gas pressure is being delivered to the appliances.

Manometer Water U Gauge – After Gas Heater Replacement
- A manometer water U gauge is a type of manometer used to measure the pressure difference between two points.
- It consists of a U-shaped tube filled with water or another liquid. When pressure is applied to one end of the tube, the liquid in that arm rises, indicating the pressure difference.
- It is a simple and inexpensive device commonly used for low-pressure measurements in HVAC systems, gas flow measurements, and fluid dynamics experiments. However, it may not be suitable for high pressures or fast fluctuations.
